         Information on Environmental Pollution

One of the greatest problems that the world is facing today is that of Environmental Pollution, increasing with every passing year and causing grave and irreparable damage to the earth.

Environmental pollution is contamination of air, water and land from man-made waste. Pollution leads to depletion of the ozone layer, global warming and climate change.

Environmental pollution consists of four basic types of pollution

  1. Water Pollution
  2. Land Pollution
  3. Air Pollution
  4. Noise Pollution

Water Pollution:

Water pollution is the introduction into fresh or seas, rivers and oceans waters of chemical, physical, or biological material that lowers the quality of the water. Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds. Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in these bodies of water. In almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to individual species and populations, but also to the natural biological communities.

Land Pollution:

this picture is showing that we dump all the rubbish at one place that become a cause of pollution

Land pollution is the degradation of Earth’s land surfaces often caused by human activities and their misuse of land resources. It occurs when waste is not disposed properly. Health hazard disposal of urban and industrial wastes, exploitation of minerals, and improper use of soil by inadequate agricultural practices are a few factors. Urbanization and industrialization are major causes of land pollution. The Industrial Revolution set a series of events into motion which destroyed natural habitats and polluted the environment, causing diseases in both humans and other species of animals.

Air Pollution:

Air pollution is by far the most harmful form of pollution in our environment. Air pollution is cause by the injurious smoke emitted by cars, buses, trucks, trains, and factories, namely sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. Even smoke from burning leaves and cigarettes are harmful to the environment causing a lot of damage to man and the atmosphere. Evidence of increasing air pollution is seen in lung cancer, asthma, allergies, and various breathing problems along with severe and irreparable damage to flora and fauna. Even the most natural phenomenon of migratory birds has been hampered, with severe air pollution preventing them from reaching their seasonal metropolitan destinations of centuries.

Noise Pollution:

Noise pollution is excessive, displeasing human, animal or machine created environmental noise that interrupts the activity and balance of human or animal life. The word noise comes from the Latin word nauseas, meaning sea sickness. The source of most outdoor noise worldwide is mainly construction and transportation systems, including motor vehicle noise, aircraft and rail noise. Poor urban planning may give rise to noise pollution, since side by side industrial and residential buildings can result in noise pollution in the residential area.

Prevention:

We can solve these all problems if we care and love our world. Water, Air, Land and Noise pollutions can be solved and they are not like unsolved mysteries. These all problems can be overcome because we are the culprits and we have done these all problems by our selves. We can solve these problems by avoiding cutting trees, while planting more plants and trees, avoiding throwing rubbish on land and even in water, making car engines work properly and change them from old to new so that smoke from the cars do not pollute the fresh air around us and don’t spread such bad voices of old engines in cars which is included in Air and noise Pollution.

As you know that World Environmental day is also a day like other days like technology day, sports day and many more. World Environmental day is one of them which are celebrated among the entire world by each and every people and now even in schools. World Environment Day is celebrated in many ways in countries such asKenya,New Zealand,Poland,SpainandtheUnitedStates. Activities include street rallies and parades, as well as concerts, tree planting, and clean-up campaigns. In many countries, this annual event is used to enhance political attention and action towards improving the environment. This observance also provides an opportunity to sign or ratify international environmental conventions. Now students also celebrate World environmental day in their schools by making different kinds of projects on environment or pollution and the most suitable day is choose for this event in schools. Students also enjoy making projects some times with there friends. It’s a occasional thing for students and it is interesting activity for students which make them also learn about it.

We Beacon House also celebrate World Environmental Day which is an upcoming event and we all are waiting for it. Our school celebrates this event by displaying projects which are made by our school children’s. In every school from different way this event is celebrated. But in our school it is celebrated in a different way. Like children’s give some speeches on this event in assembly. And then we all display our projects in a beautiful way and then these projects are seen by our Head mistress, teachers and even junior classes and senior classes. Sometimes it is a marking project on which we get marks and which are included in are exams/results. Students and teachers come to see our projects and they also appreciate us on our good effort and we feel very proud to be a Beacon knight. This is our way or our school way to celebrate World Environmental Day.

  1. Amna Khalid, your write-up on environmental pollution is nice.
Do you think you could use this knowledge for raising awareness through a brochure for this year’s World Environment Day? Ask your teacher if you can.
May be it could get published in the TBT.
Also, once designed, you could distribute it in so many places to raise awareness.
Perhaps more people outside your school need to know about what they should, or, should not do. This way may be fewer people will pollute.

    • This “PREVENTION” about “WORLD ENVIROMENTAL DAY” is very good. This whole page would really be established or published on the beaconhouse website TBT. I like this page very much.
